Information Literacy Program National Information System on Health in Cuba is essentially a program for the development of skills in the management of medical and scientific information on health workers .

Making health workers use the information to resolve a situation in assistance for the development of research to their teaching and for making decisions is a challenge and a need that has imposed the Information Society and Knowledge.

In this context it is important to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow proper use of the vast amount of information circulating daily in the world.

As part of the program have developed core competencies in information for health workers that have their conceptual basis in the rules that were published by Australia and New Zealand Institute for Information Literacy (ANZIIL) in 2004. But he also picked up elements of "The rules on access skills and use of Information in Higher Education approved by the ACRL / ALA in January 2000 and the eight powers presented at the Third Meeting on Information Literacy Development (IHD) in 2002
